I trust you had a lovely weekend!
Weather wise, ours was quite strange.
Saturday we had a boiling hot day of over 30 degrees 'C.
Sunday was cooler and it rained.
Chalk and cheese.
One minute summer is here and the next it's not and I am wondering if it's ever going to come and just stay!
Saturday my daughter and I made cupcakes.
I am hosting my first baby shower next Saturday and another one in January!
A lot of planning, list-making, crafting and organizing going on around here!
So I was trying out cupcake recipes and different icing decorations. I still need more work in the icing department, I can't say I am any good at it or have much experience icing anything, never mind cupcakes! But with close to 40 guests I can't afford to have professional ones made, so everything must be home-made as far as possible, from the food right down to the decorations.
I enjoy it though, the invites have gone out (forgot to take photos of them! ) and the decorations have started!
With a million and one ideas running through my head, I am trying to reign them in otherwise I might end up over doing it!
The only thing I am struggling with is baby shower games. I don't want anything that's embarrassing, anything that is gross (like guess the what the baby ate by the poo in the nappy- yes, I read there really is a game like that!)or crude. Just decent, enjoyable games for everyone. I will have ladies ranging from 20 to 80 there, so it has to be things they can all enjoy.
Any ideas?
Be sure to pop in tomorrow for a easy-peesy favor tutorial

Oh those look yummy! Your crochet bag looks beautiful too. I also saved that pattern a while back with the idea of one day....(sigh) Will send you pic's if I ever get around to making one! raining here today too - at least it's cooler- been REALLY hot!! Some days over 36 degrees!
Oh Bonnie, your pics are absolutely fabulous. I love cupcakes and am sure you'll do fine for your baby shower you're hosting. I attended a BS recently and we played one of those games where you've got the name of a Disney Movie and you now need to describe it to your partner, so that she can guess it. What absolute fun it was!
Ahh...parties are always so much fun! Your cupcakes look just fine...grand enough to make you wanna eat them right away and that's what really matters. Stick a pick in them and you are done ;} We always played...put the diaper on the baby {used a big doll ;} blindfolded...it was hilarious. If you are on the wild side you make them use a cloth diaper and diaper pins...makes it oh so much more interesting...lol Love your new crochet bag in your previous post...I've been so busy that I haven't had time to read any blogs ;} This week is Thanksgiving so things are really hectic. The weather is just as crazy here with winter never coming and it was like summer today in the high 70's...had to put on a short-sleeve shirt to run errands...oh boy! Have a great week, fondly, Roberta
We've played one guessing placenames by giving clues, eg. Q City named for a Queen A Victoria Q An ill member of the deer family A Sicamous (pronounced SickAMoose), Q Royal Pair A Prince George and Prince Rupert
You can make the names from your area, your country or the world, but try to make the area big enough that everyone has a good chance. We usually write the questions on a sheet of paper with blanks for the answers. Highest # right gets a prize.
Hey bon, gorgeous photos! love the cupcakes!
we played a fun game at a hen night, where the ladies are put into two equal no.teams, each team is given a pair of washing up gloves, and a packet of wrapped chewy sweets, like Starbursts, and each lady has to put the gloves on, unwrap a sweet (so hard!!) and eat it. She can't pass the gloves on to the next lady until she has shown she has swallowed it!! then its the next lady's turn, the teams compete and its a race as to what team finishes first after every lady has had a turn. I've played it also at an engagement party, the guys find it impossible to do!! but both times was alot of fun!!
another one, of everyone in a circle, the host toss the balloon and calls the name of a lady, but its the person to the LEFT of the named lady that has to hit the balloon to stop it touching the floor, as she hits it up she calls a name and the lady to the left of the named lady hits it and so on. If the balloon hits the floor the person who didn't get to it in time is 'out', and leaves the circle. Its fun with a lot of guests, especially if not everyone knows each other.
the cupcakes look delicious! baby showers are so much fun (to attend and to host!) we played a game where we had to match the names of common baby items in british english and american english. the ladies here had a great time trying to figure out what a "dummy" was! (here in the US we call them pacifiers. dummies are something very different!) or that "nappies" were diapers, etc.
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Here in South Africa we call "diapers" nappies and "pacifiers" dummies! So I guess it's different wherever you go!
