Hello!
Just a short post for today!
I recently got a very good tip from someone I know.
She told me to make roses last longer, put them in the fridge!
She said she does it all the time. Especially if it is a hot day and she knows she is going to be out and not there to enjoy them. So she puts them in the fridge and when she gets back, she takes them out again...
So I decided to try it..my roses normally last 3-4 days before they start to droop and look a little sad. I never get roses to last more than 6 days.
I tried it and you won't believe how long they lasted....a full TWO weeks!
By the end of the two weeks, only then were they starting to look a little sad.
They looked fresh and crisp everyday!
I don't know why it works, but it does. I didn't change the water either, just topped it up when it was getting a bit low.
Enjoy your roses for longer!

Great tip, Bonnie. Our local rose farm has a huge cooler room where they keep the roses before seling. I guess it makes sense the fridge would do the same thing?
Another thing that works well - instead of plain water:
1 cup lemonade (Sprite) and 1 cup water with 1 tsp of bleach. Seems to help too!
wow! cool!
but veronica, bleach?? Really? amazing i've never heard f that. I have heard a bit of lemonade or soda water peps up any fresh flowers..so, maybe next time i have roses i'll try the fridge and bleach too!
incredible! i wonder who thinks of these things originally?!
