The trip was a short two hours. The scenery beautiful...rolling green hills, yellow canola fields, pastures of sheep, grazing cows and the occasional blue crane. We passed sleepy villages, mist still hanging heavily in the valleys. Smoke billowing from chimney's as people were starting their day.

We went to stay for three days at a friends farm. Not a working farm as such, but a vast area of hills, a stretch of white sand and a river. Gorgeous fynbos of all kind, Aloe, wild Hare, buck, probably plenty of snakes too. Fresh air, unspoiled nature and total solitude and quiet. Tucked away, far away from civilization and cell phone signal.

The weekend consisted of trying to keep warm, drinking a lot of coffee, eating, playing cards, talking, drinking more coffee, and the good old South African braai (BBQ), a ride in the boat up the river, (which was freezing!)Taking in gorgeous sunsets.

And a few walks...some of which I took on my own, just me and my camera...bliss.

discovering things..like this empty and discarded tortoise shell.

Sunday after a good English breakfast, we packed up and left to go home...
