I am so excited as I designed and had the wood cut to make my daughter her first full-scale dolls house. I have wanted to for so long, I don't know why it has taken me so long to get there! (sorry baby, at least you will have it soon!).
As a little girl I always wanted a dolls house. It was my number one obsession. I remember lying under the lounge table with all my paraphernalia of assorted homemade (very badly diy stuff) furniture, dolls and being lost in my own little world for hours.
I never got to have my own dolls house, but instead grew up to own a life-size one complete with real working appliances! ha ha!
So this little project is a double joy. Something I can relive a bit of my childhood with and something I know she really wants. (what little girl doesn't?) We are going to build it this weekend with the help of hubby and it will hopefully be an on-going project to paint, decorate, and make things for it for a while to come still.
In the meantime, I made all her bedroom stuff today. It was super fun, in fact, so much fun that I left the housework, ignored the piles of laundry and unmade beds...
Here is her little doll in her make-shift "room" for now, I wanted to set it up for her as a surprise.
I made the bed (mostly thick cardboard). I made a headboard for it too.
Then I made the cushions and pillows, a mattress, quilt, sheet and crocheted blanket.
I love the little blanket.
Her little pillows, quilt and sheet are a mix of vintage and new fabrics

Here is the bed. top left: the base. I covered the cardboard with pretty card stock paper, and the base with a sweet little crocheted trim that came off my favorite pair of jeans of hers that she outgrew many years ago and I have hung onto like the sentimental silly I am.
top right: the mattress (just some batting covered with calico fabric)
bottom right: the little quilt I made.
The dressing table wasn't as great as I wanted, later on I will redo it. I used foil for the mirror!
washi tape to hide the cardboard and a little ruffled skirt.

I made a tiny little book and little bedside cloth....
I couldn't think of what to use for a lamp and suddenly it came to me! Of course, a sweet little wooden spool! It was a hurried one as she was due to be fetched from school and time was ticking away....
But I think I will add some trim to it and try and make another or a few...
The rug...hexagons and I crocheted a trim for it.
and so the sweet little dolly can sleep peacefully in her nice new, warm bed tonight....
For some amazing talent, beautiful hand made dolls furniture (from wood, not cardboard!) have a look at lovejoy Bears blog. I only found her blog today, I fell in love with her sweet creations and amazing talent!
And lati dolls??? I didn't know until today they exist. They are the most beautiful dolls I have ever seen! But so expensive!! I want them all. My daughter and I were drooling....
Does anyone have one?
Have a great weekend everybody!

Wow! What an awesome project. Your daughter is a lucky little girl. I'm sure she'll have hours of fun with the dollhouse. And your photos of your work, as always, are fabulous. I love visiting your blog. - a Canuck
Awwwwww so cute!!! Well done! I love it! Love the quilt with the little pleated trim! Oh i love it ALL!!
I too wanted a dolls house. Instead my barbie had an apartment...i.e the desk and shelves of my cabin bed wiped clear. I would make furniture and accessories...even when my male doll (later in life i realised it was a micheal jackson doll!!) Lost his head i would cut out a hansome face from a mag, stick it to cardboard and attach it to his neck!! Haha!
I hope Emma has hours of fun and i'm sure she will treasure her doll house for years and the memory of coming home to suc a lovely sweet thoughtful set up. You are so clever Bon!
It is a lovely project for you both to share. Sadly Jess was never into dolls! She had them but never played with them. Otherwise i would have enjoyed bonding with her making doll things!!
Enjoy your weekend playing!! Heehee xx
Your daughter must be so happy with the adorable things you've made!! That bed is absoloutely amazing, I love the tiny cushions and the beautiful blanket and the quilt is divine. It's all wonderful!!
I really love that photo of little dolly tucked up in bed :)
Thank you so much for mentioning my blog, your lovely words have made me so happy!! Hugs xx Vicky xx
Was thinking some more about your dollshouse.... I remembered I made little items of food and mini-'pottery' from air-dry clay (Das) which I painted. Looks so cute! You could use FIMO clay which is dried in oven and already in colours (works out a bit more pricey tho).
I really love the crocheted blanket. It is so cute (but all other stuffs are adorable too). I am really glad you shared this one. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Oh my! The blanket is so cute. I really love it and the colours you’ve chosen. How long did it take for you to make it?
Hi Jelly.
The blanket was really quick. I think it must of taken me about half an hour to make. It is just a few rows of double crochet.
this blog is really amazing and how you made a room for your daughter's doll
So sweet! really love the crochet doll blanket and pillow. Very inspiring, going to have to do this for my daughter and her lps Blithe or even her mini lalaloopsy doll
I love this post. I would love to see pictures of the whole thing from further away. Please post..... I would have been ecstatic if I had owned this :0)
