All ruffled up...

Did you miss me?
I know, I have been quiet lately...so much to be busy with!
I have been into my paper scrap booking, and I got my sewing machine fixed and was itching to use it! So I bought some really cheap tops for R30 each (or $4 )
and they were quite long, So I cut about 10-15cm off the bottom of each one and sewed different ruffles onto each of them...so quick, so easy and something that costs about R180-R200 ($24-$27) only cost me R30 ($4)!!

A pink one with front ruffles and a big flower just because!


And a cream one with a few ruffles along the neck line.
And then I bought some plain Tee's for my little girl and sewed a piece of fabric on the bottom and some lace and vola-she had a new dress! I should of taken a photo of her in it as she wore it on the weekend, and she looked so sweet! Will soon!
By the way for the ruffles, it's quite easy. If the shirt is quite long, put it on and measure where you want it to sit, then add on an extra 3cm for the hem allowance and then cut off the remainder. Then cut the piece along the seams, opening it up to be two pieces of fabric now.
Then cut off the seams (side and bottom). Then all you do is cut 1.5cm strips length ways. Pin onto your shirt and sew!

Now...onto some Felty fun
made some hair accessories for my daughter. She loves hair stuff and I love making things...so we all benefit!

They were suprisignly easy to make and such fun!

I also made this little felt heart.
It was my first try, so the next one/s will be neater!

I then finished a cushion cover I started at the beginning of winter... I started knitting it but very sporadically. I wanted pink and gray to match my bedroom. Last night I sewed it all together and then added the buttons and felt roses. I LOVE it!








Finally I am the proud owner of two new couches courtesy of my fabulous father in law! It was a gift from him...I was so touched.
I have wanted new couches for years, but we just never had the money or if we did, we needed to use it for other things... I can't believe the difference it makes, the couches, the color, the atmosphere, and the fact we changed our whole lounge around.. It feels like a lounge now...a conversational place, not just all the couches pointing at the TV!

You can see what my lounge looked like before here - all reds, orange and green. The green accessories are the only ones I kept as I think it looks lovely and fresh with the blue and green together! I have also added some white candles and a glass bowl with shells in. (on the table).
On the main wall above the TV cabinet I still want to have a photo gallery with more shabby frames in assorted sizes and colors of cream, white, pink and blue.
Anyway I am loving my new lounge...I feel so incredibly smart! It's been 12 years since anything "BIG" as far as furniture goes, so it's great! And much appreciated!

Spring in July?

So this past weekend hubby and I had friends of ours look after our kids and we went away for the Friday and Saturday to a town about 45 minutes drive from us, called Franschhoek. I've posted about this place a few times in the past. I love it, it is gorgeous. Surrounded by mountain peaks, vineyards, streams, rivers, ponds, horses, country roads and a distinct French heritage and influence. The houses are very French inspired and they really live up to their cultural heritage in their food too! We got there at 2:30pm and went to get the key for the cottage we were to be staying in and then headed into town for lunch.

We walked around and looked in the all the cute shops

And of course you cannot go to Franschhoek without going to the Huguenot Fine Chocolate shop!
They have the most divine chocolates!
We got a few...the best one I thought was the chilli chocolate, a nice spicy bite!!

It was Bastille weekend, so lot's of activities going on.

Taking a drive around we found that the orchards are starting to bloom, which is quite early for this time of year. They normally start mid August and 1st September is our official start of Spring.




We went out to eat Friday night there at the Grill Room, such amazing service, so fast. The food divine! We were in and out within an hour!
The next day we had breakfast next to the river outside, a beautiful day. And drove around the country roads and enjoyed the amazing views and scenery before heading back! Such a peaceful, lovely time.

Before I go, I was very happy to see I won The cream in our coffee badge for playing at the play date cafe last week for This card.
So thrilled!!

Paper Scrap pages and a card

Hello. It's been a while since I posted! School holidays have been here, so we have been busy and I have tried to be a good mom and stay off the PC! Did quiet well I must say! We managed to get out and about a bit, but not too much as it's winter here and freezing and we have cold rainy days. With the odd sunny one in between. Alas, only 2 more days left and then school starts again! It's a bitter-sweet "alas" because on the one hand I am looking forward to getting back to my routine, to gym, to have some time alone. On the other hand, no more sleeping in, no more staying in if I don't feel like going out... it's back to getting up at 6am when it's still pitch dark outside and the moon is up! (an outrage!) :)

Sharing a few pages I have done these hol's. These were some crazy photos of the kids and I...ha ha.

The little owl I made by hand and sewed the button eyes on. I used cosmo cricket paper. (joy ride and material girl)
I am going to be selling these little guys and the branches soon in my Etsy store.

And this one...I love how this came out... I must say the original design is not mine...I got it out of a scrapbooking memories Aussie mag. Loved the idea! Some October Afternoon houses and trees there!


and then finally a card. The paper is from Hopscotch Shabbyshop
Love that kit! The papers are so versatile and print so beautifully!
And a paper doily with a little ribbon, rose and stamp and voila! Very simple and quick. I have never used doily's before on cards, I got the idea from Cindy Lee

The Play Date Cafe Challenge PDCC37

Hello!
I am Participating this week in the Play date cafe challenge number 37.

This week we had to choose our favorite colors from the above photo and interpret how we see fit. So this is what I created.
I love all the colors in the above photo, the greens, blues, peach, pink, orange and yellow. So I went with them all!
I printed out some digital papers from The new Hopscotch Shabby shop kit.
I also used some roses in my stash and some pink lace. I then chalked the edges and colored in the little bits of white card with a peach pencil crayon. And stamped "Hello Friend" onto it.
