Pink and white fields of blossoms....

I just had to come on to post tonight. I had such a gorgeous day.

I just love Saturdays. . .

There is something wonderful about ...
...waking up when your body feels like it.
... the kids running into the room and jumping on the bed to say good morning.
... the smell of pancakes and cinnamon that hubby makes {and which I don't/can't eat :) }
...going for a drive on a beautiful day with the sun shining
...buying frozen strawberries, blueberries and figs in bulk from the farm stall.
...going to Franschhoek and finding beautiful fields of orchards in full bloom.






...coming home and printing out all the gorgeous pics ready to scrapbook with!

...going to bed happy with the day's events!

Art Journals

It's been therapeutic to work in my art journal again. I don't do it often, so when I do, I like to prepare a couple of painted pages in advance for when the mood does strike. Working in it reminded me just how much I love it and how therapeutic it is for my emotional well being to do it though.
Here are a couple of pages I have done. I think I like this form of keeping a visual diary because
sometimes images and the process of being creative are expressive enough in itself without lending to the form of words. Sometimes writing in my journal ( I keep both) can be tiring and draining.
But keeping an art journal, I can still put down my feelings and thoughts sometimes without much effort and also without having to spell out what it is I am saying, I know and that is all that matters.

{Plus it's a great excuse to cut, paste and paint!}




I also did a small acrylic painting the other day...

It turned out quite silly, but it was fun nonetheless.

Hoo Dat?

The past week has been filled with small creative bursts, like the weather-small burst of sunshine in between all the rain!
I've been up to a few things...

I got a bit crazy making owl's...
I really wanted to make something special for my kids, something that they could look back on one day with fond memories, knowing it was completely handmade by their mom!
And then I made these cute owl's.
This one is my son's

And this one is my daughter'sAnd then I decided to make a few more cos I enjoyed it so much!
She is also hand painted-roses.

The fabric is 100% pre-shrunk calico which I hand painted designs onto. I painted the wings too and stuffed them.
I used felt and buttons for the eyes and some felt for the feet.

Then this little owl is more of a show off, she likes to strut her stuff! She comes with a lace seam
and yoyo eyes with buttons and some ruffled wings. Made out of Biggie Best material.



The little rose owl is for sale in my Etsy store and the little posh one above will be soon, just finishing off some hand stitching on her.

And lastly but not least...I made this little bunny for some bunny special....
It was quite hard to do as I machine stitched it but some parts were too narrow to machine stitch, so I had to do most of it by hand. She is holding three felt hearts.



I have also gotten back into my art journaling and enjoying it so much, but those pics for another day! I hope you are having a good week! Would love to hear what you have been up to.

A walk in the woods

Wednesday I took the kids to the nature reserve. It's one of our favorite places.

All ruffled up...

Did you miss me?
I know, I have been quiet lately...so much to be busy with!
I have been into my paper scrap booking, and I got my sewing machine fixed and was itching to use it! So I bought some really cheap tops for R30 each (or $4 )
and they were quite long, So I cut about 10-15cm off the bottom of each one and sewed different ruffles onto each of them...so quick, so easy and something that costs about R180-R200 ($24-$27) only cost me R30 ($4)!!

And a cream one with a few ruffles along the neck line.
And then I bought some plain Tee's for my little girl and sewed a piece of fabric on the bottom and some lace and vola-she had a new dress! I should of taken a photo of her in it as she wore it on the weekend, and she looked so sweet! Will soon!
By the way for the ruffles, it's quite easy. If the shirt is quite long, put it on and measure where you want it to sit, then add on an extra 3cm for the hem allowance and then cut off the remainder. Then cut the piece along the seams, opening it up to be two pieces of fabric now.
Then cut off the seams (side and bottom). Then all you do is cut 1.5cm strips length ways. Pin onto your shirt and sew!

Now...onto some Felty fun
made some hair accessories for my daughter. She loves hair stuff and I love making things...so we all benefit!

They were suprisignly easy to make and such fun!

I also made this little felt heart.
It was my first try, so the next one/s will be neater!

I then finished a cushion cover I started at the beginning of winter... I started knitting it but very sporadically. I wanted pink and gray to match my bedroom. Last night I sewed it all together and then added the buttons and felt roses. I LOVE it!








Finally I am the proud owner of two new couches courtesy of my fabulous father in law! It was a gift from him...I was so touched.
I have wanted new couches for years, but we just never had the money or if we did, we needed to use it for other things... I can't believe the difference it makes, the couches, the color, the atmosphere, and the fact we changed our whole lounge around.. It feels like a lounge now...a conversational place, not just all the couches pointing at the TV!

You can see what my lounge looked like before here - all reds, orange and green. The green accessories are the only ones I kept as I think it looks lovely and fresh with the blue and green together! I have also added some white candles and a glass bowl with shells in. (on the table).
On the main wall above the TV cabinet I still want to have a photo gallery with more shabby frames in assorted sizes and colors of cream, white, pink and blue.
Anyway I am loving my new lounge...I feel so incredibly smart! It's been 12 years since anything "BIG" as far as furniture goes, so it's great! And much appreciated!
