Owl Tea Cozies

I've developed quite an obsession with owl's lately. I've always liked them. I find them to be really beautiful birds. There is something so cute about creating them. I made some hand painted owls for my kids quite a while ago. So I have been making a lot of owls lately. Crochet owls, owl tea cozies, Fabric owls, and a crocheted owl blanket. I thought to share the owl tea cozies today. These are still a work in progress. I need to better the design. They are from my own pattern and design. They have an inner padding to keep the heat in. I wanted something vintage, whimsical and cute. Not just a boring tea cozy-but a conversation starter!

What do you think? Again, something I am thinking of putting in my Etsy shop but not sure how they will be received. There is a lot of owl stuff out there, but I think the owl tea cozy, although not original, is my own take on it and made with my kind of style.

This is the back of one of them.I sewed on the word "courage" on as I think it would make a nice gift for someone who perhaps was going through a hard time and needed some uplifting.

They are made with a lot of vintage scraps sewn together, lace, felt and ribbon.
On the front of this one, it says "A mother's Love" and then you turn it over and it says "is forever".

So those are the tea cozies. I will be putting some into my shop in the future. Would love to hear what you think about them! Thanks!
I would buy one
I would not buy

Crochet Owls

Hello! Thanks for all your lovely comments of late...so enjoy when you pop in and say hi! *big grin* Owl'll be makingI've been making some little crochet owls lately.

It started off making one for a friend who is having a baby soon and then my kids saw it and each wanted one,
so I got two "orders" with specific color instructions. They were very quick to make and fun.
Then it was making this little guy.
He has some vintage fabric sewn onto his tummy and is rather a cheeky little chap.   Although my daughter says it looks like a girl owl with an apron!
My favorite has to be what my son deems "the granny owl".
There is a huge flood of little crochet owls on Etsy, so I don't think I will be adding them to my shop, but would gladly do custom orders, just email me. Thanks for looking and have a super day! Owl'll be seeing you soon!

Ranunculus & crochet dish cloths

I adore flowers. There is just something special about a bunch of flowers in a pretty jug that tugs at my happy heart strings. I like most flowers, but I am quite fussy when it comes to what flowers I like on my table!
I love a loose, carefree bunch that looks like it was picked from a wild meadow.

Then I love roses. But not red roses, either peach pink or yellow.
I also adore Daisy's, they last really long too. I get mine to go for about 3 weeks. Good value for money.

I don't always have fresh flowers, maybe about twice a month.(lasting on average for about 2 weeks at a time).

My latest love in fresh flowers are Ranunculus. They are utterly gorgeous. For only R29 a bunch-also affordable. They last about 10 days. I love the way they change from small, tight buds to opening out into layers upon layers, like the tulle skirt of a ballerina.

I bought these yellow/orange ones a while ago, they lasted 12 days.

Last week I got these pink ones...they are still going strong after 5 days.

My other latest ♥ is crocheted dish cloths. I made some for the kitchen and I have got to say, they are the best thing EVER! I made mine out of Bambino yarn which is cotton and bamboo and is made here in South Africa.
They are so soft and absorbent and clean like a dream! I don't think I will ever go back to the normal dish cloth!

Of course, they would make great face cloths too.
I have already washed them in the washing machine too, there is no color running or fading at all. I am thinking of making some to sell in my Etsy store and was wondering if you could give some feedback. It would be so much appreciated!
Choose
I would like to buy them from your Etsy shop
I would buy from your South African shop
I am not interested in crochet items
I like the idea but wouldn't purchase

Continue of anniversary weekend.

Continue of yesterday's post... The 4x4 trail up the mountain was really fantastic. Being right "on top of the world" and looking out at the teeny little town down below...Just breath taking. We then went as fast as you can down a 4x4 trail as we needed to make our dinner reservation. I still can't believe we made and got there only 5 minutes late! After rushing down the mountain path, jiggling and bouncing all the way, jumping in the shower and throwing on our clothes! The restaurant was lovely. I didn't realize it was so small. Only about 8 tables inside (with a few outside). We went to Reubens at the Robertson Small Hotel. (Chef Reuben Riffel) The meal was heavenly and we enjoyed it. Sunday was our last day. We enjoyed a lovely English breakfast that hubby cooked up. A leisurely cup of coffee sitting outside and listening to the birds and then we packed up and went for a hike to the rock pools.

I love the pops of yellow on the mountains.

Such a pretty path to hike on, with flowers on every side, yellows, pinks, purples...sigh

Finally at the rock pools! It wasn't the warmest day, but there was no way I was not going to get in. Hubby thought I was very brave! The water was quite cold so I didn't go completely under, just to my shoulders. Was lovely and fresh though! It must be glorious on a hot summer's day!

The color of the rocks was fascinating. Some had a burnished bronze look, others a copper look and like these-some had pops of red on them.

I walked further up stream to explore...

While hubby lay on the warm rocks and relaxed.

Such lovely color on the mountains!

After our lovely hike we left to go home. It was a fantastic weekend and such a beautiful place to stay. We went to go back and take our kids one hot, summer's weekend. They will love the rock pools! Thanks for sharing this with me. I have SO much I still want to share. Finding the time at present is a bit hard as it is so busy here on the home front. The kids have got numerous projects and orals on which we work on every afternoon, apart from additional home work. (if you have/ have had kids, you know how it goes!)Hubby has been sick since Tuesday in bed and only went back to work today, so it's been a tough week too, I've had little sleep and feel quite sleep deprived! But I have so many crochet projects, sewing projects and other things to share so I will try be back. Be sure to pop in and if you do, drop me a comment so I know you were here! You would be surprised how a little word of a simple "hi, read your post" makes my day! Would LOVE to hear from you!

14th Anniversary weekend

On the 10th October it was my 14th Wedding anniversary. Hubby and I went away for the weekend, just the two of us. Going away, just the two of us, always feels like such a treat. As we only do it (if possible) once a year for this special occasion. Our children went to stay with friends from the Friday after school. We left at about 1:30 on the Friday afternoon. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we enjoyed the 2 hour car drive. This time of year is really pretty. I just loved seeing fields of brightly colored flowers (called "Fynbos" here) Sometimes you feel you have to look away as the bright magenta actually hurts your eyes!

We went to a place on the outskirts of a town called Robertson. 3 little self-catering cottages nestled at the foot of majestic mountains, cradled in a fertile valley.A place called "Die Laatjie" The road turned into a gravel road as we snaked our way up the hill and soon the hill turned into a mountain..We came over the top and I literally drew a breath. This amazing sight of this lush farm, with lovely green hills embracing it from all sides.
This is the little house we stayed in. 2 bedrooms, bathroom, lounge with fireplace, open dining and kitchen and a very large patio with table and chairs and outside fireplace. With the most incredible view...

Do you want to take a tour of inside with me? Come, let's go inside... Here is the lounge with a lovely fireplace (a novelty for us!) Oh look there is my hubby reading a magazine!
  And that's me!
  This is the patio
To the left we have the dining and kitchen areas..(bit vintage-retro!)
  Bedroom number 1
  The room we stayed in...
Let's take a peek out the bedroom window...
We enjoyed sitting on the patio wall and watching the last rays of sun hit the mountains.

Just being together and enjoying each others company, and talking! Isn't it funny how when you have kids, real conversations are hard to come by? I mean adult conversations that don't involve school, projects, or how one child is annoying the other one...
I really love it when I don't have to fight for a space to share a thought with my hubby because he kids are telling him about their day, projects, etc. It was just so nice to have his attention all to myself! I took a lot of photos of the little teeny tiny flowers growing in the grass...

Our first day was short as we only got there around 3:30pm. We unpacked, went for a walk to explore our surroundings and then we made a fire and enjoyed a glass of wine and our meal.
Unfortunately, they had painted the house on the inside a week before and the fumes were very strong, so my hay fever was at an all time high. But the views and incredible beauty and being outdoors made up for it!   Day two: Saturday. Waking up to the sounds of bird song right outside your window is a real treat. We have that at home, but there was a tree literally right outside the window which the little birdies were sitting on, making known their presence as well as the fact there is a huge abundance of bird life there! It was lovely to lie in bed and look out at the mountains and trees, and hear the birds and the bees! Oh my goodness, the hum of the bees was a constant drone. I have never heard so many bees before! Apart from that, that is all we heard...pure bliss. After breakfast we headed into town (a 15-20min drive over the mountain). What a sweet town. So full of character. The Jacaranda-lined roads must be beautiful in full bloom! (November is when they bloom)

We came across this adorable little bakery, the owner was so friendly and I loved what she did with the decorations.
Her cat was equally as friendly!
I spotted a wool shop and had to go in! The colors were so enticing in the window!
I think the lady behind the counter thought I was a bit nutty oohing and aaahing over the wool! We also went to some amazing deco shops!
And I got to visit the estate of where my favorite wine comes from! Abrabella. Not a very good photo as it was taken on my phone!
Hubby took me to see where we were going to eat that night. Reubens at the Small Hotel.
When we got back to the cottage, we got changed, put sunblock on, packed a bag with water and snacks and set off on an hour hike into the gorge to a waterfall.

I wish this picture portrayed just how hard it was to get around this rock! It doesn't show how I had to stretch my short legs until near breaking point to get a foot hold and simultaneously not fall into the river! Quite a few times, I had to take my socks and shoes off and wade across parts. I am surprised my legs didn't just fall off from frostbite! That water was ice-cold!! My legs were numb for ages afterwards and then tingled for ages! The tingly feeling was actually quite nice, that is when you really feel alive!
It was so good to go on a hike. I love walking and hiking but unfortunately with small kids who lack the same stamina and enthusiasm for it, I don't get to do it often! The views were lovely. Walking along the path and looking down into the valley you could see the river flowing over white rocks. So many flowers and different plants-just spectacular!

The waterfall was really pretty and the sound deafening! We had to shout to each other just to be heard! It was in a sort of cove and so it was quite chilly. The water was freezing.

Looking up, the plants and flowers on the cliffs were so pretty..

We got back around 5pm and then hubby wanted to go on the 4x4 trail that twirled up the mountain. We had two hours before our dinner reservation. So we decided to give it a bash. I am so glad we did. I have never seen such amazing views or such incredibly beautiful flowers! From the bottom of the mountains, if you look up you can see they are sort of purple or yellow.

At first I thought it was a weed (the one that gives me hay fever!) but as we got closer, I could see it wasn't weeds, just amazing fynbos and utterly breath taking! I took so many photos to try and capture the beauty of it but I am afraid even they don't tell the real story. But hopefully you can get a small glimpse of it. We went up and up... If you look closely, you can see the 3 chalets on the hillside!

I love how the mountains look like a blanket that has been draped over something. The shadows and folds fascinate me.
This was quite funny. I wanted a photo of us standing in amongst the flowers, so we put the camera on the car and put it on self-timer and then ran to a spot. Yelling "ouch" and "ow" as we did when we realized this beautiful flowers were covered in thorns! I was scratched to smithereens afterwards!

We went up 700m!!
Some more of the pretty flowers growing right at the top.

I will finish off this tomorrow! It's taken me forever to do this post. I hope you are enjoying seeing the photos so far! see you tomorrow!
