Lemons 47

Hello!
It feels like forever since I stopped by my blog to write a post!
Life has been pretty busy the past few weeks!

*We had 3 weeks of exams and studying for school.
*It was a busy time getting a crocheted blanket done in time to courier up to my sister for a baby shower.
*This week has been very busy with a big wholesale order that I am busy with for a client. (Busy but fun.)
*I am also doing the flower organizing and arranging for my hubby's brother who is getting married on the 7th July.
This morning I met with a local florist Phenology. The owner, the lovely Nox is so sweet! It is always fun to meet talented people with a like-minded passion for crafty/arty things! We shared ideas over a coffee.

My kids broke up for school holidays for 3 weeks today as well. They came home with amazing reports which made me a very proud mommy! As a treat, I took them to lemon 47 for lunch.

It was icy cold today with a horrible south easter wind that cut through our clothes. We found this little place to eat and were ushered inside. A lovely warm, cozy little room. Each chair had a blanket over the back rest.
We had a oil heater right next to our table (we were the only ones there).

We sat down and put the fleecy blankets on our laps.

Outside the wind howled, blowing the last few remaining leaves off the trees...

I sipped and savored a hot cappuccino

Our food arrived. My daughter ordered french toast (her favorite!) with goopy syrup, creme fraiche, a raspberry and blueberry coolie

My son ordered fish and chips (completely forget about photographing his food once my own arrived, I was so hungry. By then it was 1pm and all I had eaten during the day was a banana!
I tucked into my food. Oh boy, was it totally delicious! The best pasta I have EVER eaten. No exaggerations. I don't even know exactly what was in it, it was called Pasta Pomedero and I remember seeing on the menu it had roasted tomato, garlic, basil and grated Parmesan. I ate the whole bowl, (sharing the last bit with my daughter only because I was so full!)
I want to go back and eat some more.....soon!

I love school holidays. I love not having to get up to make lunches and drive them to school in the dark! I love sleeping in. I love early morning cuddles and time spent lazily in bed reading, or playing cards, board games. I love saying " so what shall we do today?"....
I love no homework....
I love spending time with my kids, baking, going places.
Just being and enjoying these times as I know they go by so fast and I never want to wish them away. I remember as a young mom, having two kids under the age of 4/5 I would wish for the holidays to whiz by so that they could go back to school. I still enjoyed my time with them, but I must admit, I enjoy the holidays so much more since they started Junior school.
It made me realize with both of them, in grade one, that year for both of them, how they changed and grew up in an instant.
In Grade one I lost my "babies" for good. It was the end of a chapter and the beginning of another.

Each year they have changed and grown so much and with each passing year ,it seems to just fly by. So I have learned to slow down, to let certain things go. I don't clean the house as much, I let the ironing slip, we "make do" because I want to treasure my time with them while I have them at home, all to myself.

So if I am quiet for the next 3 weeks, know that I am busy with orders, wedding flowers and entertaining my two kiddo's. But I should be able to pop in from time to time!

Vergelegen: Part 2

I forgot to post these pics of the fun little Children's park they have at Vergelegen.
With wooden carved sculptures the kids can sit on..

 Cute sheep and snails

 Beautiful vista

Just love the old oak trees there.
 pretty flowers
And my daughter found this stick insect! I haven't seen one in years! It was quite cool to discover one!
G'night!

Vergelegen

Vergelegen Farm is one of my favorite places to go.
It's the sort of place you go when you feel life is too hectic and you need to just get away for a while.
I also like to go there during the different seasons. It's amazing to see the changes.
I remember going there last Spring.

On Tuesday I took my dad and kids there. My dad and I had a cup of coffee and the kids each had a milkshake. Sitting there we had a stunning view.
There is this really cool water fountain-a wine glass! Quite appropriate for a Wine Estate!
This carved wooden acorn is actually quite huge! If I went and stood by it, the top of the stem would be shoulder height!
I love this amazing lavender!
I could never take too many photographs of roses!

Love the pops of red on this tree.
 The light..ah the light!

 A beautiful camillia
 And another...

I'm so torn between whether a yellow rose or a orange rose is my favorite...

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed your visit today!
What color rose is your favorite?

Crochet : Baby blanket / Snood / itty bitty pieces

Hello lovelies!
My sister commissioned me to make her a baby blanket and a few hats and hair bands for her soon-to-be grand daughter a few months ago.
The blanket took longer than I had wanted to take on it. But then again I am not the fastest at crochet.
I am very happy with it though. The colors are not my personal cup of tea, but I know my sister likes them and chose them. I do love the yarn though-so soft and thick and warm. I decided to crochet the squares together using two of the colors in the blanket. It added to it's coziness and thickness. I finished it off with a row of dc orange and then a thick border of white. (simply 4 rows of dc followed by one edge all the way around of ch5, sl st.

I always struggle with the arrangement of the squares, being careful not to have the same color together either across or down. For a bit of contrast I threw in some squares that had all the colors in.

Here you can see the rows where it is joined at the back, some in pink and some in orange.
I am quite in love with it, even though the colors were not my favorite...it was my best constructed blanket I think and even hubby commented on what a great job I did! *now you say "awww"*

I also made a snood for my niece and an infinity cowl for my sis.

My sister is holding the baby shower this coming weekend but I won't be able to make it, so I sent this crocheted bunting I made for the baby's room. It's not shown in the photo, but I ended up sewing the ribbon to the bunting as it kept shifting.

Other random crochet odds and ends include some trim I made for my scrap booking projects.

And a white shelf edging from Simply Crochet magazine.
The edging was just a trial run but I think I am going to make a longer one for my laundry room.

So that is my latest in the crochet world. I also made my daughter a hat which I will post about soon.
What crochet projects are you doing at the moment? If you don't crochet, what other projects do you have on the go?
